Learn more about the circumstances surrounding the passing of Bill Miller by reading this post. It was in 2001 when he was first hired on as Dick Clark’s stage manager. Shortly thereafter, Jenny hired him on as her stage manager.
On “The Chew,” where chefs and celebrities may be exposed to hazards such as blades, hot oil, and grease, the stage manager is required to pay close attention to the environment and any potential threats that may arise.
He asserts that the close-knit and proactive nature of the DGA team is the primary reason why accidents are so uncommon. The absence of egos and competition makes it the friendliest set I’ve ever been on while working in television.

Miller’s willingness to assist has spread beyond the confines of the set to his Guild. He was also a member of the Eastern AD/SM/PA Council for eight years, during which time he served on two network negotiation committees for improved Guild contracts.
He was one of the few members of the staff who covered both the news and the entertainment beats. Miller ran for reelection this summer despite being required to take a year off from the Council after having served there for eight years consecutively.
He contends that the work he is doing with the Council is essentially an extension of the requirement that members speak up when they observe problems “on sets.”
How Did Bill Miller Die?

Miller reflected on his long history of service to the Guild and his Council and said, “It’s so vital that members speak out when they notice an issue, and my work with the Council is just an extension of that.” Miller had a long history of service to both the Guild and his Council.
It might be difficult for you to make it to meetings if your work schedule involves early morning television. However, given all that this Guild has done for me, it’s the least that I can do in return.
