Several witnesses have stated that a car drove into a group, and as first responders arrived, people began to flee the scene.
The Gallup Police Department has confirmed that there were injuries sustained, but they have not provided information regarding the number of victims or the severity of their wounds.
What Happened At Gallup nm Shooting?
On Thursday evening, a car drove through the Gallup Intertribal Ceremonial Centennial Celebration, causing multiple people, including two officers with the Gallup Police Department, to sustain injuries.
According to the Albuquerque Journal, State Police Lieutenant Mark Soriano stated that the incident in the city of Gallup did not result in any fatalities but that he was unable to provide specific information regarding the severity of the injuries sustained.
The New Mexico State Police made an announcement on Twitter stating that they had taken the driver into custody and were investigating the incident.
Participants in the parade could be seen scattering to make room for a brown SUV that was driving down the street in videos that were shared on social media. In yet another clip, onlookers and law enforcement officers can be seen approaching the overturned SUV and pulling at least one man from the vehicle.
Users of social media platforms have been uploading videos of the event to share. Someone’s status update on Facebook reads as follows: “Attending the Gallup Parade seemed like it would make for a pleasant evening activity. The most terrifying thing that could have happened was a drunk driver driving through the crowd while shooting. The crowd was pushing and shoving each other. People are being stepped on and trampled. Be sure to check on any family members who are there to watch the parade with you.”

The first Gallup Intertribal Ceremonial was held in 1922, making it not only one of the oldest celebrations of Native American and Indigenous culture in the state of New Mexico, but also one of the longest-running celebrations of its kind anywhere in the world.
Native Americans and other indigenous peoples from all over the world travel to Gallup, New Mexico, every year to participate in the Gallup Intertribal Ceremonial, which is considered to be one of the largest gatherings of its kind.
This year, the meeting is celebrating its centennial with a calendar of activities that includes musical concerts and a rodeo that will take place for 11 days (both physically and online), starting on August 4 and going all the way through August 14.
The Gallup Intertribal Ceremonial is held every year in the picturesque Red Rock Park, which is located approximately one hour west of Gallup.
